3.0 out of five stars Get the Hunter brand fans for better quality, July 1, 2009
By S. Wells (Chico, CA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Minka Aire Fans F300 BN 11″ Retro modern Indoor Brushed Nickel Desk Fan I projected a higher quality product for $60. This fan looks chintzy in comparison to the Hunter 12″ fan I got at Target for $15 cheaper. The medallion in the center with the Minka Air logo is just an aluminum plate, whereas the Hunter fan has an embossed steel logo. The retaining ring that holds the front and back guards together is plastic and there are totally no directions in the box about putting the thing together. I had to guess. The retaining ring isn’t easy to put on. You nearly need three hands.

The Hunter fan has a metal retaining ring, and the fan comes totally assembled.

The Minka Aire fan works well, and is comparatively calm, but the blades hit someplace when you change the speed. That is annoying.

I would not recommend this fan. Go to Target and get a Hunter fan, or pay $30 more and order it at Amazon.

5.0 out of five stars nice, calm fan, July 4, 2010
By H. Edwin Detlie “Ed Detlie” (Ottumwa, IA USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Minka Aire Fans F300 BN 11″ Retro modern Indoor Brushed Nickel Desk Fan We have seven Minka Acero roof fans in my office and in our new home. We got five for our home, because the two in the office have been surprisingly calm, year after year. We just got the retro table fan, which is silent, at quick.
There was a little too much assembly obliged with the table fan, but it was straightforward, and took no more than five minutes, using a cordless drill as a screwdriver.

5.0 out of five stars Rises Above Expactations, June 30, 2010
By A. Mast (Northern Indiana, USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Frigidaire FRA052XT7 5,000 BTU Mini Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I got it hoping it could keep my apartment cool ER. I projected it to keep it comfy, not cold. I also had some a problem with size. The only window that opens in my house is a vertical sliding window, which Air Conditioners I can pay for, are not made for.
Once I received it, I started to assemble and install. First I goed to leave the extensions off, since my window was only 18 inches large, but after I got it and thought about it more, I realized they could still help keep it supported. So I put them on. They’re about an inch inside the window, to help it from falling out. As well, I first hoped to purchase many wood and put that above it, but once I saw how tough it was with just the extensions, I put cardboard above it and plastic taped around the edges with channel tape. Red neck, I know. It is sealed with the help of many other bits that came with it to help seal it.
I installed it a little over twelve hours ago and my home is cold. I live in a house above a garage. Just a big living room, average bathroom and small bedroom. It is 621 SQ Feet.(assuming I did the math properly. 23 x 27 feet.) This is total, but there are three separate rooms here. (Also, I have a low roof, only 6.5 Feet.) I placed it in my only opening window in the living room and it keeps the bathroom cold which is closest, and my bedroom pretty cold too, which is farthest. Many bigger than advertised for. I did not care, I needed a little cooler than I had. Before, it was hotter inside than it was outside. I have it on high, but will think about turning it down, which I never thought I could do. I like the cold. It is THAT cold.
For $110, I got an amazing air conditioner that perform WAY better than expected/advertised and it got here very fast too. It arrived four days after I ordered it with standard shipping and handling. I’m a happy costumer.

5.0 out of five stars What a deal, July 5, 2010
By inkubus “dlc1223″ See all my reviews () This review is from: Frigidaire FRA052XT7 5,000 BTU Mini Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I spent quite some time researching A/C before buying. We live in Oregon and it does not get too hot but there is a month or two in the summer where the heat and humidity get oppressive in the house. I wanted an inexpensive, small, window A/C to increase the comfort. I wanted something small enough that I can store it the other ten months.

So, after much research I ordered this model. I goed to get the 6K BTU model with the electronic controls but I figured I could get something super cheap and if it did not work I could use it as a single room cooler. Shipped free which makes this a pretty good deal. Arrived in about a week.

Installation was easy, following the information in the manual. I did have to install and remove the A/C about three times to get all the sealing right. In the box there is many of different thicknesses of bubble and bubble tape. There’s no particular information about what to do with this, except the stuff for the top gap of the upper sash. I experimented with different combos to get a good seal. We have recent vinyl windows with screens but no storms so the unit just dropped right in. But, there are many gaps around the bottom in this configuration. I full these with the thickest bubble that came with the unit. This did the trick but did not look too great. Luckly I ordered extra bubble tape as another reviewer suggested, and I used small pieces of that to caulk around it inside and outside, leaving the big bubble inside. It really looks pretty neat and professional. $4 well spent ;)

Anyway, the unit is installed in our major living room. We’re in a 1940′s box bungalow so this room is about half of the width and length of the house. The bedrooms and kitchen connect to it. With it on HI cool/Max(7) the complete house was cold and big amounts of water have been pulled out. We’ll see how it performs in the forthcoming week of 95+ temps. We keep some $10 box fans around to circulate air so I can move the cold air around.

One thing is that I have heard mentioned on some other models is that the fan catches water in the pan and spits it around. This is a feature and not a bug ;) . The unit is intended to pitch rearward somewhat when properly mounted. Moisture removed from the room collects at the bottom. The fan blade is coated in rubber and it is intended to suck water up and spray it on the evaporator coils. This helps many precooling of the outside air. It significantly increases efficiency. I could not drill drain holes, as other people mentioned.

Summary:
$100, and my house is cold AND calm. You can not say more. If it is not enough for the hottest day I may get another and move them to the bedrooms. It is calm on low but I like white sound.. I hope it lasts, if it does not I’d gladly pay another $100 in two years.

5.0 out of five stars Better than expected!, July 1, 2010
By Cassie Monteverde (Blacksburg, VA United States) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Frigidaire FRA052XT7 5,000 BTU Mini Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I bought this a/c primarily due to price. It has totally exceeded my expectations. It’s cooling three rooms in the downstairs of our house (about 600 sq ft). And I have still to change it over to “high cool”. It is also quieter than I projected. Well worth it is low price!

5.0 out of five stars suggested, September 9, 2010
By Ahmed Moore (California) See all my reviews () This review is from: useful Cooler First ever Evaporative Cooling Mini Fan / Battery Fan / Small Desk Fan / mini air conditioner BLACK OVERVIEW

Handy Cooler is the ideal travel/everyday must have. It weighs a little over four ounces I could say. The size of the useful cooler is astounding for an air cooler. It’s about the size of a water bottle and the handle fits well. I love how you may be able to change the angle of the blowout direction. The air that comes out is cooler than fans, and it does not come off too strong. But, do not expect it to be as cold as and as powerful as a full size AC.

GET IT WORKING

It works by evaporation. For cool air, you have to wet the sponge with the mini bottle provided or wet it with water over the sink. I think it may be a smart idea to put it in the fridge for a while so that the air that comes out is cooler.

BATTERIES

It may be powered by plugging it into a computer with the USB cord provided, or with four AA batteries which lasts about five hours. You may be able to buy a 6V wall adapter for it.

CONCLUSION

Cooler than the most fans

Great design

Humidified air

Easy to use

Portable

I have to say the useful Cooler is simply the most useful gadget ever. If you haven’t recognized already, UPS trucks don’t have air conditioning because of our recurrent stops to houses. I used to keep little fans in the truck while I drived but they barely helps. The hot air inside the truck just keeps to get recycled. My son got me the useful Cooler last month and it has made my job so much easier under the hot weather. I typically keep a big water bottle in the car and jus wet the cooling filter whenever it gets dried up. I saw that there’s a 6V AC output on the useful Cooler, so I tried to plug a 6v car adapter into it and it worked! The only problem is that it was hard to place the useful Cooler so that it could blow directly on my face. I had to use many of blue tag to stick it in place on the dashboard. But, I do strongly recommend this product.

5.0 out of five stars personal cooling, July 28, 2010
By Dbenz See all my reviews () This review is from: useful Cooler First ever Evaporative Cooling Mini Fan / Battery Fan / Small Desk Fan / mini air conditioner BLACK The useful cooler is good if you need a personal cooling product. I put the cooling pad in the fridge and they add extra cooling. The great thing is that they’re intended nicely so they may be carried anywhere. I used to own the sharper image neck cooler and that’s nothing close in comparison to the useful cooler. I greatly recommend this one.
