5.0 out of five stars great product, May 22, 2010
By D. Ross See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Hunter Fan 23723 52 Inch Five Minute roof Fan, New Bronze (Tools & Hardware) 1st time installing my own roof fan, so I had hoped that a product called 5 minute fan could be an easy 1st try. I bought two fans for two different rooms with angled ceilings. It took me one hour for the 1st fan, and 20 minutes for the 2nd fan. I was happy with the product in regards to cost, easy installation, and well written information. I had chosen the brand hunter as a recommendation from a friend that used to own a roof fan store. When I told him I got the 5 minute brand, he gave me a big thumbs up on my choice. The blades are dual sided with a black brown and light brown side which I thought was a nice touch. Elegant design, and I’m happy with the results. Only negative thing I have is that in each of the box one of the bulbs were broken. The make does offer to send a free one, but I just found it easier to go to the store and pick a couple up.

5.0 out of five stars Great fan with quality issues, read review before you choose., September 21, 2010
By G. Laird (San Jose, CA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Hunter Fan 23723 52 Inch Five Minute roof Fan, New Bronze (Tools & Hardware) I gave this a five star because; its pretty, its calm (slightest motor hum), gives enough air flow in comparison to a 44″ model, it may have been installed easily (definitely read below), and they included the bulbs. I envision two types of purchasers. If you’re electrically and mechanically adept, this will be straight forward to install (It took me 1.5 hrs to hang this unit, another two hrs last to build the supports and wire the box.). If you’re like the average person, and missing in either home improvement expertise, this may be self installable, but certainly read below.
Next shame on the Hunter Fan Co. For outsourcing and to get exactly what they deserve; sloppy quality that rendered this fan unusable if I didn’t have better than average expertise as above. Did Hunter’s V.P. Get a bonus for this disservice to their customers?

Most of this information is in the information, but then that’s after you make the choice to purchase or not to purchase. How to fix and install a Hunter fan, that may be a really nice addition to your home:
1) two sets of screws didn’t fit. To get past this, assemble the complete fan on a work bench the day before you intend to install it, as a mock up, and find the places where sloppy quality control will force you to go to the hardware store for fastners. Segueing to (2).
2) To configure the fan in “low profile”, the three screws provided (#8 32 x 3/4) had too big of heads to fit the profile washer. I had many smaller head screws, but you may have to purchase replacements.
3) The tapered head screws, to fasten the light assembly, didn’t fit the sloppy over sized threads on the fan motor base unit. You will have to compare the supplied screws with somewhat bigger diameter sheet metal screws (w/phillips head), of the correct outside color (since they show), to attach the lamp unit. You’ll be carving out your threads by doing this. But the screws should hold the weight of the lamp unit, forever.

Before you hang the fan, the information describe in many detail those steps you have to perform to prepare the site:
1) Most tract homes install far too weak of supports for the connection box, that standard cheap light fixtures hang from. You must use a connection box to meet electrical code. You must guarantee that your roof has enough support to hold the hefty weight of this unit.
2) I cut two 2×4′s to length and fastened them between the two roof joist above my installation site, with “deck screws”. I fastened the connection box with simple wood screws to those 2×4′s. I used thumb tacks and string, drew an “X” across my complete roof to find the center. I poked a inflexible wire through the roof sheet rock, so I could recognize the site inside the roof crawl space. I went from there.
3) If you dont have light fixture in the chosen site, you’re on your (my legal escape clause) and should get an electrician and freelancer to install the connection box and wire it with the alternatives for switched or unswitched as you want. There are simple books on home electrical wiring that a mechanically adept person can follow and prepare the electrical connections. Turn off the breaker to that zone of the house before you start wiring!!

, I am happy with my buy. I do wish I did not have to do engineering for Hunter without being compensated.

4.0 out of five stars Great fan, but not a five minute job, September 5, 2010
By David Loy (United States) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) () This review is from: Hunter Fan 23723 52 Inch Five Minute roof Fan, New Bronze (Tools & Hardware) The fan arrived undamaged and in good form. I took down the old fan, , then allotted about an hour to hang the new one. Let us just say that an hour was not enough. I called in a friend to help, and two hours afterward we had it all done. (Life could have been easier if the house builder had installed a connection box!) This isn’t a five minute job, at least not for me.

On the other hand, the fan works beautifully. It moves lots of air (even my friend noticed that right away), it seems great, and the motor is calm. We use it with a wall mounted speed control, and it works just good (be sure to set the fan to the highest setting first).

5.0 out of five stars Good bang for the buck, June 24, 2010
By Wilkes See all my reviews This review is from: Frigidaire 6000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) I have the unit installed in the bedroom. A calm unit, can hardly hear the compressor kick on. Perfect for the bedroom..12×14. The sound is less than a box fan. I leave it running 24/7 and amazingly doesn’t effect the power bill many, looks real economical. I had to change the tilt of the unit after the 1st install because of a sloshing sound from the fan in the rear of the unit. This has been caused by the fan sloshing the water. The unit needs to be nice and level. The buttons on the front are easily cleaned, and the remote is the same way with its flat design. The filter comes out and is cleaned with out any effort. The unit doesn’t have a new air/recirculate switch as many of the bigger models. From the big amounts of humidity it pulls from the room, I assume its only recirculate. After some days without any rain in a small room over night, it can leave you with a dry throat and irritated sinuses from the low humidity in the room.

5.0 out of five stars Far Exceeded My Expectations, July 7, 2010
By cherryblue See all my reviews This review is from: Frigidaire 6000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) Before purchasing this Frigidaire, I’d bought two movable air conditioners: one 7000BTU Danby and one 9000BTU Sunpentown. Both of those were totally unable to bring a 12×14 bedroom down by more than 3 4 degrees, after running all night. They blew cold air but for many reason the room never got cooler. One night it was warmer in the bedroom, with the AC running full blast, than it was outside when we woke up in the morning!

I did not want a window unit because I work at home and wanted to be able to roll the AC back and forth between the bedroom and my office. In the center of a big heat wave, I got desperate and installed this Frigidaire 6000BTU in the bedroom so I could get many sleep. I found that it cooled the room to about 72 degrees (100+ and wet outside throughout a big heat wave) inside about 90 minutes. I was so amazed at how much better this works than the other ones that I now bought another one for the office. The total cost for these two very superior window units was about fifty bucks more than purchasing one movable.

Installation was a little harder with the Frigidaire window unit because I have vinyl windows and had to cut two wooden shims to anchor the AC so I would not have to screw it into the vinyl itself (which could void the warranty). This is true with any window unit. But the somewhat longer installation time is certainly worth it because the Frigidaire:

Is much cheaper
Is much quieter
Cools the room pretty quickly when the others did not cool it at all
Is more energy economical, which means it is cheaper to run and as a bonus, the city where I live gives a rebate for EnergyStar appliances

I was a little psyched out about installing this unit with vinyl windows, but there are a bunch of good tutorials out there if you put Google to work, and it was much easier than I thought. Total no brainer. . , and this appliance is great and a great deal.

5.0 out of five stars Warning: Dimensions Are Incorrect. This is 14in High, July 8, 2010
By Great Faulkner’s Ghost (Washington, DC) See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER) This review is from: Frigidaire 6000 BTU Mini Compact Window Air Conditioner (Kitchen) This unit is 14.7 inches high, not 12.5 as listed. If you have a regular window, that won’t be a problem, but it may be a problem for smaller windows (ie., basements, bathrooms). I bought a different unit for that reason, so I can not comment on this unit, other than the size. If you need a 12.5 inch 6000 BTU unit, has the Frigidaire FAA064P7A for about the same price. I bought that and it went in my window perfectly and I’m quite happy with it.

5.0 out of five stars Great Little A/C!, July 4, 2010
By K. Arredondo (Colorado) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Haier movable Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, CPRB08XCJ (Kitchen) I have two LG 9,000′s for the bigger rooms which I LOVE but needed one a bit smaller for my babies room (the central AC is awful at cooling upstairs!), so we got this one the other day and it’s perfect. You do not have to drain it so I do not know what the last review talked about. It’s self evaporating and uses it is own water cond. To cool itself. The window mount it much better then my LG’s too. It is a stylish and a small box AC that works great and keeps me less stressed at night worrying about the comfort of my 18 month old at night. I have a thermostat reading in my room that tells me the temp in his room and this AC keep it exactly at what I wanted it to. Love it so far and recommend for sure!

2.0 out of five stars more trouble than it is worth, July 30, 2010
By kanimc “kanimc” See all my reviews () This review is from: Haier movable Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, CPRB08XCJ (Kitchen) I was in the market for a new air conditioner for my 12×15 bedroom, and upon reading the other buyer reviews was sure that for the size, BTU, and price the Haier CPRB08XCJ 8000 goed to be the right fit for my needs. Upon setup and as I began using the product I ran into some number of issues.

The 1st was that the directions on setup and installation were unclear, for such a apparently simple procedure.

Secondly, while the air conditioner is said to cool a room up to 250 300 sq feet, it struggled to cover my 180. And while it does seem to do a better job at dehumidifying than cooling, the total of drainage from the collected water is unmanageable. The product was said to be usually self evaporating with a reservoir tank that will hold the extra. I was aware that the unit may need sporadic drainage. I but am unable to run the unit for more than 3 4 hours before the tank is full and shuts itself off totally. Since I’m using this in my bedroom there’s no convenient way to drain the tank without either totally detaching it from its window fittings and rolling it into my bathroom, or allowing it to drain into pots or pans and carrying them to the kitchen sink. The other night, while I sleeped, I attempted to just let the unit to drain as it cooled into a spare aluminum casserole pan but the total of water was so great that halfway throughout the night it had begun overflowing. I am going to attempt to find many rubber hose to fit to the drainage spout to put out my window, but without elevating the very heavy unit I cant see how it’ll ever really drain proficiently. I could forgive this extra bother if the unit was effectively cooling my small room, but it’s all around lackluster.

Thirdly I think calling this air conditioner movable is a little misleading. In order for me to move the unit into another room I have to unplug the unit from the wall, disconnect the exhaust hose, unscrew the window fitting to change the size and remove it from my window frame then transport the unit to the other room and refit the exhaust hose and window fittings . It does not sound like too much, but the whole procedure takes about 15 20 minutes. I suppose by buying some number of of the panels that go into the window frame I could keep those preinstalled into other windows in the house, but with all of the extra expense and annoyance I just do not think this air conditioner is worth the fuss.

I had also tried researching many troubleshooting techniques, but Haier does not list this product on their web site.

Lastly, because I bought the air conditioner supported by but sold by this company called Beach Audio I can not return the product to amazon. Beach Audio has a 30 day return policy that excludes certain things as well as air conditioners despite if they’re faulty or not. It was my mistake for not researching this before my buy, but I was told that their return policy was 30 days and I did not see the have to investigate it more.

4.0 out of five stars Good movable Air conditioner, June 21, 2010
By JMW (Houston, TX) See all my reviews This review is from: Haier movable Air Conditioner, 8000 BTUs, CPRB08XCJ (Kitchen) I looked for a good, small, and cheap movable unit to install upstairs in my gameroom, HOA doesn’t let for window units. This unit preforms pretty well for its size. It doesn’t have a water collection bin through you have to drain it through a hose, but I have a central unit that removes alot of the humidity.

The installation was pretty easy except for some small problems, it comes with four tiny screws that are supposed to attach the exhaust hose to the window spacer, but they where not long enough, I had to use four tiny bolts and washers instead.

When installing it remember to keep the exhaust hose as straight as possible any bends decrease efficiency. Also I bought many insulating wrap form home depot and covered the exhaust hose. I used a temp gun and saw that the exhaust hose had a temp form 95 110 degrees. The window put they give you is a joke also you may want to install many insulation around it also.
